Was glaubt Ihr, schützt vor Demenzerkrankungen?
Is there the risk that you develop a dementia?
Because my lovely husband recently got as a gift the book "Digital Dementia" by Manfred Spitzer. I bought this book some time ago and accordingly our temperament we discussed passionately about the contents of the book.
Briefly summarized Manfred Spitzer has the opinion that the brain needs to be trained on a regularly basis, and that this is done mainly by experience of life as well as coping with new challenges. If tasks are only standard and processed in many repetitions, it may happen that synapses in the brain become stunted. However, according to Manfred Spitzer it is also important to be not to much under stress, as this has also an adverse effect.
I like the theory by Manfred Spitzer and my husband agrees to him, too. Because I am of the opinion that the brain is like a muscle and the whole body must be ever trained continuously to ensure fitness and agility. And finally I think, the challenges and tasks that life gives us are very important for our personal development, and I think a more "comfortable" life that repeats itself over decades, day after day in a similar form, has the rather opposite effect - and possibly even dementia as a result.
So I will continue vigorously to challenge myself and adopt new challenges, which basically makes me already a lot of fun, but now I have even a very good reason to continue in this way.
Do you know the book "Digital dementia" by Manfred Spitzer? What do you think protects against dementia? Are you more happy if you have more challenges in your life or if your life is more equably?
And of course, I have challenged me for my outfit of today with the flounced black-and-white patterned skirt, the black biker jacket, the white cashmere sweater and the black stutted boots, which nearly look like the Susanna-Boots from Chloé - now even with the good conscience, that I have done a favor for my brain ...
Have a wonderful Sunday!

Hi! Many things to say: 1) I reviewed your haircut post because I thought you cut it as a boy but was just the bangs! And that, I'm not afraid, sometimes I cut myself because I do not like going to the hairdresser. 2)Now I'm with a lot of things to do in my studies, and it is only the beginning, actually it is a very long period and I am filled with anxiety, but I try to take many breaks in the day. I agree with you and your husband, the brain must also trained, in fact I would like to continue my studies of german (I was starting but I could not continue) and that's a wonderfull remedy for brain activity! fot sure! I love your look today, it lets us see your great silhouette and nice legs. ;-D

Hi! Thanks a lot for saying so many interesting and nice things: 1) You are right, I really just cut the bangs :) And I neither like it to go to the hairdresser and cut often myself my hair! 2) I can imagine that you have not only good feelings regarding your studies, but to be honest I´m sure you´ll be manage them really successful as I got already the impression that you are an absolutely clever and hard working woman. Further I´m convinced that you´ll be able learn German very soon as you already speak so many languages. Thanks a lot for your kind feedback, I like it to wear skirts but often it´s more comfortable for my daily life to wear pants :)

ReplyDeleteI do agree with you about the brain, the more we use it the better!
I haven't read that book, but I think I would like it. I certainly see eye to eye with you on this issue:)
Thanks a lot, dear Ivana!
DeleteThanks for your agreement about the brain, I´m sure you use your brain absolutely enough and further I´m convinced you would like the book.
Sometimes I have a feeling I use my brain too much:) but maybe is just that I concentrate too much on certain things. With time I have realized how good it is to try new things because that both relaxes and stimulates us. No matter how much I like to read about certain things and subjects, I try to always be open for new things, even those that I don't seem to be good at. I have a feeling that it is especially beneficial for the brain to try to do things we aren't sure we can do:)
DeleteWhat you describe above, dear Ivana, is one of the reasons why I really appreciate you! I like it so much that you are always open for new things and that you have the courage to try so much new things, not only because I believe also that things we aren´t sure we can do are beneficial for the brain.

Lovely outfit, Rena. As for the book, I've never heard of it, but agree that brain does need to be challenged on a daily basis in order to remain active. Stress can definitely affect it because it can damage the coating surrounding the neurons whilst good healthy food, good fats (omega 3 & 6), a little coffee (latest research) and avoidance of sugar/refined carbs/gluten will all benefit in a long run. :)

I definitely agree that it's essential to train the brain and presenting it with new challenges definitely helps to make it strong. You look gorgeous my dear friend.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your agreement and your nice feedback, dear Imogen!

You chose a great topic! My boyfriend has a true phobia of developing dementia and got himself tons of books about it and how to prevent it, although I haven't seen this one in his collection. It probably hasn't been translated in English yet, that's why... Anyhow, I agree with all of you, a brain is a muscle and we need to train it, because later on, when you get older and you develop signs, it's basically too late to do anything. And pills don't help much - I know, I have a demented grandmother... But I've actually never heard of the stress factor! This kind of worries me, because it's really hard to turn off stress, isn't it? You can say that you won't stress as much, but in the end, you stress anyway. It's kind of a vicious circle...
ReplyDeleteObviously your boyfriend is also really clever (like you) and I think it´s great that he is so familiar with this important topic! I don´t know it for sure but it could really be that this book hasn´t been translated in English. Thanks for your agreement, I neither believe in pills. I think there are two types of stress, the positive one - which we in German call “Eustress” and the negative stress, the “Disstress”. Positive stress gives us energy and the negative stress destroys us and the brain regarding this theory. I think all of us should really care of ourselves and change our life if there is too much distress in our life. And nobody is able to change our life than we by our own …

I've never heard of the book, but it sounds interesting. Dementia is such a horrible condition. We think my nan has the start of it, but she won't go the doctor. I believe diagnosing it early can ensure the condition doesn't get too bad and I agree that keeping the brain active is important as well because it is like a muscle. Even doing things like reading or puzzles can help keep the brain active.
ReplyDeleteYou look very feminine and sweet in your outfit. The boots are cute and I love your jacket.

So sorry, dear Colleen, that it looks like as if your nan has the start of dementia. I wish all off you that she finally decides to go to the doctor because like you I believe diagnosing it early can ensure the condition doesn´t get too bad.
To be honest, the way I am sometimes forgetting a lot of thing, I am scared that I may end up with dementia. For the first time in 7 years I forgot my boyfriend's birthday and I am so ashamed of myself that I don't even know what to say to him. I just don't understand how it happened and things are a bit tense. Do you have any remedies or tips that could help with brain activity?
ReplyDeleteYou shouldn´t worry, dear Naaj, you have so many other things in your brain and it happens that we forget such things. I think you brain is already really active as you write and blog and last but not least you´re working. In my opinion every activity for which we need our brain in an active way is helpful for the brain. And if you would like to read the comment above, Anna as an obviously great tip for the brain :)
