Talking handicap

Glasses: Sting / Necklace: Pieces / Blouse: Esprit / Sweater: S.Oliver / Coat: H&M /
Bag: Celiné / Pants: MMM for H&M / Boots: Esprit

Passieren Euch Verwechslungen? Was fällt Euch schwer auszusprechen?

Are you able to read, but not pronounce what you read?

Because I do not know what is going on with my brain, but sometimes it is really challenging for me. For example, at times it happens that I say blue instead red or top instead down. Although this mix-up is a bit irritating for my dear fellow men, at least I have learned to deal with it.

However, there is another thing that brings me regularly into trouble: on some days I forget how to pronounce English numbers, especially if they are in double digits.

In this context, I had last week again a very special experience. Namely, I had a phone call in English with a colleague from Italy, because there is at the moment a problem with a supplier which belongs to my lead buyer responsibility. I received an information from this supplier that regarding the current issues on the 25th November will be a meeting in Italy, and I wanted to communicate this date to the colleague. Yes, I wanted to communicate this, of course, but can you imagine what I was not able to do? You are right, you are smarter than I am, I just could not pronounce the number 25 at this moment!

Feverishly I thought about how I should otherwise transmit this essential information, as my calendar caught my eyes and I saw that the date of the meeting was the Monday after this weekend. And in the absence of an better alternative, I shared exactly this with my colleague, namely that there would be a meeting on Monday after this weekend.

Obviously my colleague had to digest this information because there was a short pause in the conversation. But how I secretly hoped my colleague jumped on the moving train, and said to me that the Monday after the weekend is the 25th November, which of course I immediately understood - although I was previously not able to pronounce this - and confirmed with great relief.

So I fortunately managed to cover my inability in relation to the English pronunciation of numbers, and now I hope that in future I will be able not only to read numbers but also pronounce them in English.

Which confusions happened to you? Which words are difficult to pronounce for you? How do you cover your own weaknesses?

And that as a cat lover at least I don´t forget, what in English is called Meow, I wore on Saturday my cap, on which this is written to my grey oversized coat, my white-and-black checked shirt, my grey sweater, my black leather leggings and my grey suede booties ...

  60. Hi, beautiful Rena. You look wonderfully chic as always, that necklace is so cute and I'd like to own same one:)
regarding to your article I'd like to say that I deeply understand you, at my company we have many English speaking clients and its my daily duty to talk to them and solve their problems with our equipment and services, so I know how it's hard to comunicate with people in different language, which is not your native, no matter how good you know it. Sometimes I do forget words and can't talk properly, that is so embarrassing!!!:):):) anyhow, its important to develop our personal qualities and just study during all our life:)

I´m sure you manage your job with the English speaking clients very well and they all love you very much! But nevertheless I agree that it is important to develop the own personal qualities, just study during all our life and learning from our mistakes :)

  69. hehe, this was a such a great story, and how witty of you to think of a way how to replace the 25th meaning! :) I am not sure, if in case I would have forgotten that number, I could have come anything close to something that would mean anything close to it! :D
And how awesome is this outfit, Rena! From the beanie to the booties- you look so stylish! I think I love those pants the most! :)

  78. Oh Rena you are so funny. I have moments where I read something but say something else and I'm like what the hell. It happens a lot at work, it can be a nightmare.

Glad that your colleague was able to understand and you were able to pass on the message. I want to learn German but I think it will take me a lifetime to get to the numbers :)

    1. Dear Naaj, you are nice, and I think your mind is so busy that such things like you explained could happen - which btw happens to me, too :)

And I´m sure you will be able to learn German, and regarding the numbers there is obviously always a strategy possible to paraphrase them ;)
