Modified Alps

Cap:  New Era / Glasses: Sting / Jacket: CMP / Pants: Esprit / Shoes: Meindl

Are for you the mountains also no longer what they once were?

Because my lovely husband and I were really surprised at the weekend.

Maybe you know already that we like it on the weekends to enjoy coffee and delicious cake. Sometimes for this purpose we visit a café, but at some other days we prefer to hike in the mountains to get what we want.

There is a mountain which is our favorite mountain in this respect, because after a not too long, crisp climb, you reach a cozy cottage that offers great food, delicious cakes and especially a special kind of unsurpassed pancakes which is named in Germany "Kaiserscharrn". This cottage is already since many years in our repertoire and more of an insider tip and usually anything but crowded.

Therefore, we headed on Sunday cheerfully to this goal, and believed already on our way to the parking lot not to trust our eyes, because left and right the road parked already a lot of cars. We were happy that we nevertheless found immediately a parking spot and started motivated our hike.

However, we met incredibly many people on the way. After we had literally struggled through the crowd, we reached our destination, the cottage, and we found even - although with great difficulty - a free place. But when we wanted to order the pancakes, we canceled quickly this plan, because the queue at the self-service counter inside extended up to the patio! I quickly grabbed the last of the apple strudel from the pastry counter and after the plate was in my hand, the cake counter was empty. Fortunately, coffee was still available in sufficient quantity.

While my husband and I enjoyed the apple strudel together with the coffee, we talked with our table neighbors, and came during this talking a little closer to the riddle of the overcrowding of this excursion destination. After all, the lady told us that she never before had been visited this mountain because in the past the transport connection has simply been too bad. But since the new, multi-lane highway is ready built, this part of Bavaria is now perfect to reach for a small hike from her home in a big Bavarian city, and she knew many of her friends, who also like to visit our region now.

Of course I can understand the lady and the other people who like it to visit our region, finally I enjoy our region every day and I am happy for them that our region is now more accessible. But for my husband and me the changed situation is now a stimulus that we will have a lookout for other cottages in the mountains here in our region, where things get a little quieter - and perhaps, who knows, maybe we'll soon discover a new gem and even more yummy "Kaiserschmarrn" ... I'll keep you in the loop!

Where are you going to drink coffee? What insider tips do you have? Where is much more crowd in your region than in the past?

Luckily I wore my pink jacket for our hike, so my husband was able to have me in sight among the many people - and I´m really happy that after all we were able to find among the crowd a quiet spot for the photo shooting ...

  7. Your photos have made me fall in love with Bavaria, the alps the mountain the lakes and the greenery all around is peaceful and calming. I am in love with this place and definitely goes on my must travel places list.

I live just opposite Heathrow Airport so no mountain climbing but plane watching is what I do everyday :)

It gets very loud but we do get beautiful sunset in the evening so that is a big delight and definitely puts a big smile on my face

    1. How great that you liked Bavaria mostly because of the beautiful views because this is what I also really appreciate on Bavaria :) But I think Latvia has its advantages, too …
And I wish you, that you will get the perfect apple strudel soon, best in Bavaria or Austria :)

  61. U know how much I love walking + hiking like u~ It would be so great to climb up a mountain & reach a cozy cottage that serves coffee & dessert, so wonderful! Seeing all these fantastic pics of Bavarian scenery in all of your posts, I need to ask my boyfriend in the future to definitely take me to Bavaria when we finally visit Germany =) P.S- Love the pink jacket on u!

  62. Hi Rena, I love these types of excursions, the beauty of nature is amazing, I just wish that I did it more often. I live near mountains but we don't have anywhere to go have a good cup of coffee and cake there. The landscape is amazing and adore your cute pink puffer jacket.

    1. Hi Sam, what a pity that you don´t have the possibility to have a good cup of coffee and cake in your mountains … wish you really that in your region will be established such establishments, too. Thanks for adoring my pink puffer jacket :)

  63. The countryside is stunning especially with all the autumn colours. We love to have a coffee and a cake at weekend and I'm always on the look out for great coffee shops! I remember having the best apple strudel in Munich last year!
